Anita Kangas

Director of the Unit for Cultural Policy/Politics Studies at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy in the University of Jyväskylä. Professor Anita Kangas, PhD, is the Director of the Unit for Cultural Policy/Politics Studies at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy in the University of Jyväskylä. Her professorship of Cultural Policy Studies was established in 1996. Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Social and Public Policy. Professor Kangas has directed the Programme of Cultural Management in 1991-2000 and M.A. Programme of Cultural Policy from 2000. She has advised PhD students since the establishment of the PhD Programme of Cultural Policy and is a director of the Multidisciplinary PhD School for Cultural Policy in Finland(http://www.uta.fi/laitokset/isss/tamcess/sovako/english/cultural_policy.php)

 

Between 1986 and 1991, she has served as a chair of the Arts Council of Central Finland, and in 1992-1997, she was appointed as a vice chair of the Arts Council of Finland, and as a member of the Consultative Board for Popular Science and Committee of Media Arts. She has been consulted by a number of Finnish local and regional authorities on cultural policy and cultural planning. From 2002 she has served eg. as a chair of Advisory Board of the Foundation for Cultural Policy Research and Regional Cultural Foundation for Central Finland (Finnish Cultural Foundation).

 

Anita Kangas has been a dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences nine years and is a member of various boards and committees in the university and the Ministry. She is also a docent in Joensuu University.

 

She has been active nationally and internationally in teaching development and research projects, acting as an academic expert to a number of activities (evaluations, statements, preliminary readings and public examinations in doctoral dissertation, referees), and she is working as a member of editorial boards and boards of networks.

 

Professor Kangas has published widely on cultural policy and cultural politics, cultural theory and action research methodology, and she has established and managed many research projects on cultural policy.
