Christopher Madden is a cultural policy analyst and cultural statistician. An independent researcher and editor, he is available for editing, writing and desk research contracts. For more check out his blog site www.artspolicies.org.

 

From 2001 to 2008 Christopher worked with the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA), where he undertook research, coordinated the D'Art programme and managed research projects.

 

Christopher has a range of skills and experience in cultural policy analysis and research, including:
* Research: coordinating a research program; undertaking research; writing research reports; liaising with the international cultural policy research community; presenting at seminars and events; and promoting IFACCA's research.
* Editing: editing policy documents, research reports, web content and news bulletins; and providing editorial input to academic journals and academic peer reviewing.
* News and web content: editing, overseeing production and generating content for websites and news bulletins (for IFACCA and Amnesty International Australia).
* Project development and management.
* Administration and finance: overseeing accounts work, membership payments, financial reporting, budgeting, and procedures; developing and refining administrative systems; general correspondence.

 

Christopher undertakes contract and voluntary work, including:
* Serving on the editorial advisory board of academic journal Cultural Trends.
* Co-presenting the Cultural Policy module of the Masters of Cultural Policy course run by the Australian Institute of Music and Sydney Opera House.

Christopher created and runs Animal Rights Hub Australasia (www.animalrightshub.org), a website that consolidates news from animal rights groups in Australia and New Zealand. In 2010 he did volunteer work for the animal proection institute Voiceless. From 2008 to February 2009 he worked voluntarily for Amnesty International Australia (www.amnesty.org.au), developing website content for activist groups in New South Wales.

 

Before 2001, Christopher worked for a variety of policy agencies in Australasia, including the New Zealand Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Creative New Zealand, the Australia Council and the National Centre for Culture and Recreation Statistics of the Australian Bureau of Statistics. He has had independent research work published in the International Journal of Cultural Policy, Cultural Trends, Media International Australia, the Journal of Arts Management, Law and Society, and the Australian Bulletin of Labour. Chris's main research interests in cultural policy are: the meaning and analysis of creativity; cultural advocacy; culture and economics; and cultural statistics, but his real passion is writing songs and playing music.
