Leena Marsio is an arts manager and a researcher, specialising in development, culturally diverse art projects and cultural policy.

 

She has been actively working as a producer in projects related to culture and development, intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity. She's been working with cultural minorities in Finland, Kosovo, Bosnia-Hertzegovina and also in South Africa. She has been working as a researcher for the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and has made commissioned works for European Commission and the City of Helsinki.

 

She has a M.A. in arts management from Sibelius Academy and B.A. in arts research from the University of Helsinki.

2008 - 2010 Coordinating Teacher - Sibelius Academy (Finland) - I'm responsible of the content coordination of the Open University courses of Arts Management in SibA. I also lecture and examine essays.

2006 - 2009 Project Coordinator - Finland-South-Africa-Association (Finland) - I worked as a project coordinator for Finland-South-Africa-Association and their project on training micro entrepreneurs. Over 2 000 micro entrepreneurs were trained in the project.

2009 - 2009 Coordinator of Factual Programme - KEPA - Service Centre for Development Cooperation (Finland) - I produced factual programme for the World in a Village -festival attracting 65 000 people to the Helsinki City Centre.

2007 - 2008 Project Researcher - PlutoFinland (Finland) - I worked as a researcher-coordinator in the City Library research project comissioned by the City of Helsinki.

2008 - 2008 Project Reseacher - PlutoFinland (Finland) - I worked as researcher commissioned by the Marketing Association of Finland to support the strategy work of the Association.

2006 - 2007 Parliamentary Assistant - Parliament of Finland (Finland) - I worked as an Assistant for an MP dealing with networking, publicity and stakeholder relations.

2007 - 2007 Project researcher - Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (Finland) - I work as a project researcher comissioned by the Ministry on a project related to cultural sector and development co-operation.

2005 - 2005 Project Secretary - Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (Finland) - Working as a researcher on two projects: "Fair Culture - Ethics in Cultural Policy" and "Cultural Policy and Development Co-operation". Gathering information, attending to meetings, analysing, interviewing, writing a publication.

2005 - 2005 Trainee - Ministry of Education and Culture, Department for Culture, Sports and Youth (Finland) - Working as a researcher on a project about ethics in cultural policy. Gathering information, attending to meetings, analysing, interviewing, discourse analysis as the method.

2003 - 2004 Project Secretary - NGO Etnokult (Finland) - Working in a project developing civil society in the Balkans through means of arts and culture. Produced several art events both in Finland and in Kosovo, took care of the communications and fund-raising of the project. Organized seminars and arranged meetings. Initiated and developed contacts both in Finland and in the Balkans. Got a general view of running a developmental project from planning to implementation and reporting.

2003 - 2004 Tour Coordinator - NGO Etnokult (Finland) - During two summers I produced a tour for a South African band/choir. Organised the tour in Finland, concerts in various festivals, transportation, accommodation and communications. Took mainly care of the application and reporting of the project.

2003 - 2004 Producer - NGO Etnokult, Faces etnofestival (Finland) - Produced for two summers several concerts, seminars and literary events, managed organising, contracting, fees and communications.

2002 - 2003 Project Secretary. Secretary - International Romani Writers’ Assocation (Finland) - Managed the establishing of IRWA from the beginning to the establishment: Took care of fund-raising, found partners and the participating Romani writers all over Europe, organised the transportation, accommodation and press releases. As a secretary I managed issues related to the members, acquired new members, took care of communications and networking.
